Measuring the Reflectance of Very Small Samples using the Agilent Cary 60 Remote Diffuse Reflectance Accessory (DRA)
2 Jan 2013

Many industrial applications including quality control in commercial printing and forensic testing require precise and time efficient measurements of solid samples. Analysis of solid samples using spectrophotometers can be challenging and results can be compromised if samples are not held correctly in the sample compartment or if samples are too large. This application note demonstrates that the Agilent Cary 60 with Remote DRA can be utilized to accurately measure reflectance data from small solid samples. Printed samples were measured using the DRA integrated camera to first determine the optimal location for data collection prior to being collected by the Cary 60 Remote DRA using the scan application. Results indicated that this method is able to correctly differentiate the spectra of colored ink samples applied to paper by an inkjet printer and concluding that this is an excellent measure of solid sample reflectance.
