Application Note: Determination of Total Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Wastewaters by Alkaline Persulfate Digestion Followed by IC
20 May 2016

Algal blooms have a significant impact on environment, human health, and the economy as they consume large amounts of oxygen, depriving other organisms from acquiring sufficient levels for survival. They are caused by an excessive increase in nutrients in the environment, this is termed nutrient pollution and has been an increasing global problem in the 21st century. In this application note Thermo Fisher Scientific describe an alkaline persulfate digestion method for monitoring the levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in wastewater using a Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ IonPac™ AS19 Analytical Column, so that damage and future risks can be evaluated.
