Illumina Launches Multi-Sample Indexing for GoldenGate(R) Assay
03 Jul 2009: Illumina, Inc. today launched GoldenGate Indexing, a high-throughput genotyping solution that utilizes multi-sample indexing technology. Researchers may now screen up to 16 times as many samples per reaction as the standard GoldenGate Assay, increasing throughput from 288 samples per day to greater than 2000, while decreasing total reagent consumption.

Semadeni Announce Newly Developed Lower Risk-Level Microcentrifuge Tube
03 Jul 2009: Semadeni's newly developed microcentrifuge FlipTubes® allow users to open the tubes by applying slight pressure to the rear end of the lid rather than the front. This results in a significantly reduced risk of cross-contamination between the user's fingers and the interior of the tube.

SpectraPlex™ Western Blot Kit and the FluorChem® Q Provide a Complete Solution for Multicolor Fluorescent Western Blotting
03 Jul 2009: Traditional methods of Western blotting for sampling proteins rely on secondary antibodies and the blot is often stripped and re-probed for further proteins. This is time-consuming and can introduce artifacts to a sample. In this application article Alpha Innotech present the SpectraPlex kit and FluorChem Q Imaging system as a complete solution and suggest they provide superior sensitivity with faster imaging.

Analyzing Signaling Events With Phosphorylation Site–Specific Antibodies
03 Jul 2009: Understanding the number of protein isoforms for each gene and the degree of post-translational modification is crucial for recognizing functional diversity. Understanding this is also an avenue for generating drugs to help fight human disease. Antibodies produced by Invitrogen are shown in this application article to greatly assist the study of individual posttranslational modifications and also provide valuable information on how proteins are regulated in different cells.

Using Cell-Based ELISAS to Measure the Levels of Two Proteins Simultaneously in Whole Cells
03 Jul 2009: R&D Systems present a method for use in protein phosphorylation analysis or to assess changes in protein levels in response to stimulatory or inhibitory conditions. Two-color fluorescence detection allows the protein of interest and a normalization protein to be detected in the same microplate well, without the need for lysate preparation. Ratiometric analysis of the two wavelengths corrects for well-to-well variations, providing a reliable measurement of target protein levels.

Panorama™ Ab Microarray Offers a Valuable Tool for Studying the Differential Expression of Proteins in Cells
03 Jul 2009: Antibody arrays are a promising new tool for mass analysis of protein level changes in cells when responding to different stimuli. This article discusses a novel antibody array system called Panorama Ab which contains 225 antibodies and is capable of detecting phosphorylated and non-phosphorylated forms of the target protein. Produced by Sigma Aldrich, this cell signaling system is also able to detect protein levels as low as a few nanograms per ml allowing small scale protein level analyses.

Simple Cytometry Method Offers Alternative to Manual Scoring of Blood Smears
03 Jul 2009: Flow cytometry is necessary for completing comprehensive analyses of nucleated cells and platelets in blood and bone marrow but previous methodologies can be time consuming involving manual scoring of blood smears. In this application article Biostatus Limited introduce a simple one-tube, lyse-no wash flow cytometry methodology for nucleated cell differential and offer an alternative method to manual scoring.
